OpenSea Launches Solana Beta Support
In one of the Internet’s recent worst-kept secrets, Opensea has officially launched support for Solana, at least in beta.
OpenSea now supports a total of four blockchains: Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and Klatyn.
What will this mean for Solana’s Magic Eden marketplace? It has a lower fee structure but OpenSea has become the de facto home of everything NFT for a large part of the web3 community. As more people discover NFTs on Solana, will they choose to use a second platform or stick with what they know at OpenSea?
Solana’s Proof-of-History consensus mechanism allows it to hit 60k transactions per second and has significantly lower (voir insignificant) gas fees.
Solana-based NFTs reportedly passed $1.5B in transaction volume in March.
Some of the big successes in Solana collections that you can now find on OpenSea include Solana Monkey Business, Degenerate Ape Academy, Aurory, Monkey Kingdom, Boryoku Dragonz, DeGods, and Nyan Heroes.
It doesn’t work with my Ledger-based Solana wallets, yet, but I’m sure that will get fixed quickly.
