Star Coins and Some Angry Birds
I just got back from a wonderful few days in Riga, Latvia, speaking at Techchill 2022. My keynote on Web3, the Decentralized Creator Economy was extremely well received and I pretty much lost my voice answering non-stop questions for 9 hours straight after my talk… Bringing the magic of NFTs and Social Tokens to a primarily non-crypto, non-NFT tech audience is pure magic and an enormous privilege….Then it was on to an amazing after-party in the penthouse of the Zunda Towers, hosted by the great guys from Gravity Team.
While there, I had a great chat with Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio and Angry Birds fame, about crypto, NFTs, and the gaming industry. There was a fascinating story about working to bridge the in-game coins out to fiat and ecommerce a decade ago, well before crypto became a well-formed thought in most crypto people’s minds. Much of it mirrored my questions to Ilkka Paananen during my visit to Supercell’s HQ in Helsinki during Slush last December about the future (and past) of gaming, crypto, NFTs, and Web3.
That will be coming to a Web3 Economy podcast episode soon. I’ll keep you posted.
Some great conversations on stage with Arianee’s Luc Jodet, Timmu Tõke of Ready Player Me, Kayla Kane for Holoplex, Edgars Laimite from Gravity Team, Martin Gauss from Air Baltic, Alex Petrov from Bitfury, and Liza Aizupiete from Fintelum.
I’ll be bringing the Web3 Decentralized Creator Economy keynote to DigitalK in Sofia and Latitude59 in Tallinn over the next few weeks. Be sure to say Hi if you are there.
